Artzentales
Village
Municipality of the Encartaciones first cited in 1214, when Diego López II de Haro mentions it as "Argentales" in a donation to the monks of Nájera; the name refers to the argentiferous galena that was mined in its territory. By 1488 the extraction and trade of iron by Juan de la Cuadra is already documented, and between 1880 and 1890 industrial-scale mining developed in the areas of Peñalba-Rao and Las Barrietas-Gerelagua. It has 754 inhabitants (INE, 2025).
