Colapso del vertedero de Zaldibar

On February 6, 2020, at around 4:30 pm, the Zaldibar industrial waste landfill collapsed, with a landslide of earth and waste—some of it toxic—of more than 725,000 m³. Two workers, Alberto Sololuze and Joaquín Beltrán, were buried and could not be rescued. The subsequent fire, releasing asbestos and methane, lasted more than nine days and led to health restrictions in Eibar, Ermua and Elgeta affecting about 50,000 people.
