Peña de Amboto y mitología de Mari Curiosity · Atxondo, Durangaldea, Bizkaia Image of Atxondo, not of the place itself. The Sierra de Amboto (1,296 m) is said, according to Basque mythology, to hold the dwelling of Mari, the principal goddess of that tradition, in a cave in the mountain. In two natural openings known as the "eye of the Eskilar" (Anbotoko bentanie) and "Bentanetan", alignments occur twice a year that illuminate the hermitage of San Roque de Arrazola, around March 6-11 and October 1-6. 6-11 de marzo y 1-6 de octubre (alineaciones anuales) Photo: Marisol Murua (CC BY-SA 3.0) What to see and do in Atxondo
