On July 22, 1936, at the start of the Civil War, two Breguet XIX aircraft from the Recajo military base (La Rioja), with Republican markings, bombed the Plaza de Andicona at 9:30 in the morning, during the celebration of the festivities of Santa Marina, killing 61 civilians. The town was occupied by Francoist troops on April 4, 1937.
