Wetland area east of the city, within the Green Belt, formed by the Betoño, Arkaute, Larregana, and Duranzarra lagoons; drained in the past for agricultural use, it was the subject of a hydrological restoration project begun in 1994 that restored its natural richness. In 2002 it was included on the list of wetlands of international importance under the Ramsar Convention.
