Elburgo/Burgelu Village · Elburgo/Burgelu, Cuadrilla de Salvatierra/Agurain, Álava Municipality of 32.09 km² 11 km from Vitoria-Gasteiz, whose place name already appears as "Burgellu" in the Reja de San Millán of 1025. In 1337 Alfonso XI granted it the title of villa, placing under its jurisdiction Añua, Arbulo, Argómaniz, Gáceta, and Hijona, as well as the depopulated places of Arrarain, Garona, and Quilchano; it preserves a pillory from that period in its square. On 10 May 1957 it incorporated an enclave to the north, with Azúa and Orenín, until then part of Gamboa. 1337 Photo: Basotxerri (CC BY-SA 4.0) What to see and do in Elburgo/Burgelu
