The island of San Simón as a lazaretto and prison

It was a leper lazaretto between 1830 and 1927 and, after the coup of 1936, a concentration camp and prison until 1943, with thousands of prisoners crammed together. The island was declared a Bien de Interés Cultural in 1999.
