América beach, originally called Lourido beach or Area Loura for the colour of its sand, stretches for 1,700 metres in the parish of San Pedro da Ramallosa, in Nigrán, bordering on Panxón beach, from which it is separated by the river Muíños. From the 1930s onwards the name América beach became established, taken from the Hotel América and the first housing development built on the spot, until it completely displaced the original place name. It is lined by the coastal promenade and the summer villas built by the indianos in the early 20th century.
