Uxío Novoneyra House-Museum Monument · Folgoso do Courel, Quiroga, Lugo The poet's family home in Parada, built by his great-grandfather during the Third Carlist War, retains the structure of an old mountain farmhouse and an archive of more than two thousand documents. Here Uxío Novoneyra was born in 1930, the son of a peasant family for whom Folgoso do Courel was the main touchstone of his poetry, considered among the finest in Galician literature for its treatment of landscape; in 2010 the Día das Letras Galegas was dedicated to him. Between 1953 and 1962 he lived in seclusion in the municipality, after falling ill with pleurisy, and it was in those years that he wrote much of Os Eidos, the poetry collection with which he began his most acclaimed poetic cycle.
