The transfer of the see of Mondoñedo to Ribadeo

Historical milestone · Ribadeo, Mariña Oriental, Lugo

Image of Ribadeo, not of the place itself.

Fernando II founded the town of Ribadeo and brought to it the Mindoniense episcopal see, which for decades had its cathedral here beside the ría; the bishopric returned definitively to Vilamaior, present-day Mondoñedo, in 1219.
