Benquerencia through time

Benquerencia no tempo is a permanent ethnographic exhibition of the Centro de Instrucción y Recreo de Benquerencia, in Barreiros, in the old schools of O Canteiro. Free of charge and devoted to the historical recovery of the customs, trades and daily life of the ancestors, it was opened in July 2022, promoted by the CIR under the chairmanship of José Otero Méndez. It brings together more than 2,000 items donated by families from the area, grouped into sections such as agriculture and farming, toys, bread, flax and wool, emigration, fishing and the sea, or the arrival of technology. Notable for its symbolic value is an Underwood typewriter ordered by an emigrant from Cuba to the United States, with the peculiarity of including the ñ key.
