Porta do Valado Monument · Viveiro, Mariña Occidental, Lugo The Porta do Valado is one of the three surviving standing gates of the five that the old walled precinct of Viveiro once had; declared a Bien de Interés Cultural (Spain's highest level of heritage protection) since 1949, it opened onto the old Roman road. It preserves no inscription relating to its construction, so it is attributed to the 13th century, although it may have a Roman origin. On either side of the gate, on what is now Nicolás Cora street -formerly called do Valado-, remains of the original wall survive, the best testimony left of the town's defensive perimeter.
