Bridge of a Misericordia Monument · Viveiro, Mariña Occidental, Lugo The Misericordia bridge, which crosses the Viveiro ria between the Gate of Charles V and the Misericordia chapel, from which it takes its name, was begun in 1462, under the reign of Henry IV of Castile, and completed in 1544, by then under Charles I, on the site of another bridge built in Roman times. The structure had twelve arches -round ones at the ends and pointed ones for the ten central arches, to give convexity to the roadway-, of which nine survive today, after alterations made to adapt it to new needs.
