Parga-Ladra-Támoga natural area Nature · Rábade, Lugo, Lugo The Parga-Ladra-Támoga natural area, declared a Site of Community Importance in 2004 and a Special Area of Conservation in 2014, protects a river network formed by the Parga, the Ladra, the Támoga and other tributaries of the upper Miño, together with their banks and wetlands, including the Cospeito lagoon. It covers 4,939 hectares spread across eleven municipalities in the comarcas of Lugo and Terra Chá, including Rábade, and forms the core of the Terras do Miño Biosphere Reserve. Its mosaic of pastures, crops and wetlands is home to a remarkable diversity of birds, which in winter can gather as many as 1,500 waterbirds, including the little bustard, which breeds in the area, and a small population of cardiño da lagoa, a distinctive plant tied to these wetlands.
