Vilar de Monte burial mounds Nature · Carballedo, Chantada, Lugo Image of Carballedo, not of the place itself. The mámoas of Vilar de Monte, in the parish of A Aguada, within the municipality of Carballedo, form a megalithic necropolis of burial mounds spread across this communal hillside, the most notable prehistoric site in a municipality that also has several Iron Age hillforts. The place name itself, derived from the Latin villaris, alludes to its location on a hill. In this small place, which in 2018 had barely twelve inhabitants, Vicenta Sotelo Puga was born, grandmother of the writer Ramón Otero Pedrayo.
