River of o Porto Nature · Vimianzo, Terra de Soneira, A Coruña A Galician river of the Atlantic slope that rises in the sierra del Bico de Meda, in the municipality of Santa Comba, and runs about 40 kilometres through the municipalities of Santa Comba, Zas, Vimianzo and Camariñas, harnessed by the Foxo, Gaioso and Carantoña hydroelectric plants before flowing into the Ría de Camariñas; its valley marks the northern edge of the Terra de Soneira. Locally it takes different names depending on the places it passes through, though the name río do Porto, documented since 1764, is the one that became established in Galician cartography in the 19th and 20th centuries; it was also called río da Ponte, and in Antiquity, Vir fluvius. It receives tributaries such as the río do Sisto and that of Zas, and preserves the batáns do Mosquetín and historic bridges such as that of Baio.
