Mount Pedroso Nature · Santiago de Compostela, Santiago, A Coruña Mount Pedroso rises 461 metres above the parish of Figueiras, three kilometres from the old town of Santiago de Compostela, on the right bank of the river Sarela, where a bridge of medieval origin is preserved. Near the summit, crowned by a communications tower, petroglyphs are preserved that attest to a human presence since remote times. From its viewpoints the city and neighbouring mountains can be seen, and several hiking trails cross it, with areas set aside for picnics. The surroundings have been protected from development for decades so that no building competes in height or visibility with the cathedral; its woods suffered the great fires of the summer of 2006.
