Lighthouse of Estaca de Bares Monument · Mañón, Ortegal, A Coruña The lighthouse of Estaca de Bares stands on the cape of the same name, in the parish of Bares, municipality of Mañón, Ortegal comarca, the northernmost locality of Galicia and of the Iberian Peninsula. It was lit in September 1850, marking since then one of the busiest merchant shipping passages of the European Atlantic seaboard. The cape, Spain's northernmost point not counting the islet of Estaquín de Sigüelos, was declared a natural site of national interest in 1933 under the name Punta del Semáforo on the Cabo de Vares. From here to the Portuguese border stretches the most jagged coastline of the Spanish coast, comparable in Europe only to the Breton coasts. The surroundings of the lighthouse, today barely inhabited, had two residents according to the 2024 census. Photo: gl:User:Basilio 13:43, 25 abril 2007 (UTC) (CC BY-SA 3.0) What to see and do in Mañón
