Estaca de Bares Nature · Mañón, Ortegal, A Coruña Estaca de Bares is a cape located in the municipality of Mañón, in the Ortegal comarca, and it is the northernmost point of Spain and of the Iberian Peninsula, not counting the islet of Estaquín de Sigüelos. From Estaca de Bares and the neighbouring Cabo Ortegal, in Cariño, where the Atlantic and the Cantabrian Sea are considered to meet, all the way to the Portuguese border stretches the most jagged coastline of the Spanish coast. On 31 October 1933, the Punta del Semáforo, on the cape, was declared a natural site of national interest. On the cape stands the lighthouse of Estaca de Bares, built in 1850, next to the northernmost locality of Galicia and of the peninsula. Its rocky ridge extends into a string of shoals and reefs, and it is today one of the country's best bird-watching sites. Photo: Agila13 (CC BY-SA 3.0 es) What to see and do in Mañón
