Pilgrimage of a Virxe da Barca Activity · Muxía, Fisterra, A Coruña The sanctuary of the Virxe da Barca stands at the tip of the peninsula on which Muxía sits, facing the sea, and is one of Galicia's most singular temples for its religious rites and its architecture. On the first Sunday after 8 September the romería of Nosa Señora da Barca is held, declared a Fiesta de Interés Turístico Nacional (festival of national tourist interest) and the most crowded on the Costa da Morte, which blends religious acts with pagan rites linked to the legend of the Virgin's arrival in a stone boat to comfort the apostle Santiago: devotees pass beneath the Pedra dos Cadrís and make the Pedra de Abalar rock. The sanctuary was destroyed by a lightning-caused fire on Christmas Day 2013 and its restoration was completed in 2015. Photo: Pilar Ponte (CC BY-SA 2.0) What to see and do in Muxía
