Waterfall of o Ézaro Nature · Dumbría, Fisterra, A Coruña A waterfall about 40 metres high, down which the río Xallas plunges into the Atlantic in the parish of Santa Uxía do Ézaro, after dropping 155 metres in its final stretch; it is one of the few waterfalls in Europe that flow directly into the sea, and is also known as O Cadoiro. Over millions of years it has carved a canyon in Mount Pindo, 630 metres deep; as early as 1724 it was described as a great column of vapour visible from several kilometres out to sea. The surroundings, of great ecological value and included in the Natura 2000 network, are home to species unique to Galicia such as the dwarf oak and the carnivorous plant Drosera anglica, as well as otters, wolves and wetland birds. Since April 2012 the flow has been released daily under an agreement with the hydroelectric company. Photo: Tanja Freibott (CC BY-SA 3.0 es) What to see and do in Dumbría
