The Gothic bridge completed in 1380 by Fernán Pérez de Andrade measured some 850 metres and had dozens of pointed arches, two towers and a pilgrims' hospital; the present one, of fifteen arches, was built between 1863 and 1870 and remodelled in 1884-1888.
