The birth of Eduardo Pondal Historical milestone · Ponteceso, Bergantiños, A Coruña Image of Ponteceso, not of the place itself. In the family house beside the river Anllóns was born, on 6 February 1835, Eduardo María González-Pondal Abente, a Galician rexionalista poet who wrote in Castilian and Galician, author of Queixumes dos pinos; a fragment of his poem Os Pinos became the anthem of Galicia. He was one of the three great lyric voices of the Rexurdimento, alongside Rosalía de Castro and Manuel Curros Enríquez, and in 1965 the Día das Letras Galegas was dedicated to him. He lost his mother when he was one year old, studied in Santiago de Compostela and briefly worked as a military doctor before retiring to his father's house. The landscape of the estuary and the mountains of Nemiña runs through his whole body of work. He died in A Coruña on 8 March 1917. 1835 Photo: Elisardojm (CC BY-SA 4.0) What to see and do in Ponteceso
