Palace of o Cotón Monument · Negreira, Barcala, A Coruña The pazo do Cotón is a medieval fortress in the form of a battlemented citadel at the heart of Negreira; its coats of arms recall the ties with the noble families of Luaces, Mariño de Lobeira, Saavedra, Figueroa, Bermúdez de Castro and Trastámara. Built in the 14th century as a castle, it underwent reforms mainly in the 17th, though it retains the drum towers of the old walls; notable are its battlemented medieval towers and the triple-arched stone footbridge that crosses the main street and links the pazo with the 18th-century chapel of San Mauro. At the centre are wings attached to cylindrical towers from the 18th and 19th centuries. In December 2025 the company Renzo Heritage acquired the pazo, intending to restore it and turn it into lodging and dining.
