Hillfort of o Monte da Cidá Nature · Ribeira, Barbanza, A Coruña A fortified Iron Age settlement set on a height that commands the mouth of the ria of Arousa and its islands; it forms a pair with the coastal castro do Porto de Baixo, already at the water's edge. It lies between the parishes of San Xián de Artes and San Paio de Carreira, on the summit of the hill, and preserves an oval enclosure of about 98 by 65 metres, protected to the north and west by earthworks and to the east and south by natural rocks acting as a wall. Excavations in 2014 and 2015 uncovered fifteen dwellings from the castro period, as well as a 17th-century ship-watching hut built on top of them. Its slopes also preserve remains of mámoas, burial mounds damaged by 20th-century logging and stone quarrying. Photo: Ceipaguinho (CC BY-SA 3.0) What to see and do in Ribeira
