Jerte cherries hold a Protected Designation of Origin and form the economic backbone of the whole valley; among the varieties, the picota stands out, which detaches from its stem when ripe. The comarca is also home to other products with protected designations, such as Gata-Hurdes olive oil and various meats and cured sausages.
