Vegaviana, pueblo de colonización Historical milestone · Vegaviana, Sierra de Gata, Cáceres Image of Vegaviana, not of the place itself. Vegaviana was built between 1954 and 1958 as a colonisation settlement following the construction of the Borbollón reservoir, with the first colonists arriving in 1956. It was designed by architect José Luis Fernández del Amo together with Genaro Alas Rodríguez; the project was presented at the Congress of the International Union of Architects in Moscow (1958) and earned Fernández del Amo the gold medal at the 1961 São Paulo Biennial. The settlement became independent from Moraleja as its own municipality in 2009. 1954-1958 (construcción); 2009 (independencia municipal) Photo: Juan Antonio B.N.
