The 33-minute documentary filmed by Luis Buñuel between 23 April and 22 May 1933, based on Maurice Legendre's 1927 anthropological study, showed the world the poverty of the Las Hurdes region; in 1964 it was named among the twelve best documentaries in history at the Mannheim Festival. Alfonso XIII's own royal visit to the region in 1922, already covered in the catalog, had put Las Hurdes on the map even before Buñuel's film.
