Three large dehesas (grazing estates) -Cantillana, Turuñuelo and Piejunta- came to occupy 90% of Herreruela's municipal area, leaving most of the townspeople with practically no land of their own, under a system of ownership inherited from its time as a commandery of the Order of Alcántara.
