Fifteenth-century fortress raised on the Cerro del Acero over the remains of an earlier medieval fortification. Alfonso VIII reserved its dominion for himself after founding Plasencia, but the Almohads destroyed it in 1196. It gives its name to the later Marquesado de Mirabel.
