Romangordo originated in the Arab settlement of Makhada Albalat, fortified in the 10th century and disputed between Christians and Muslims in the 11th-12th centuries; in the 19th century the former Campana de Albalat was split into Romangordo, Casas de Miravete and Higuera de Albalat.
