Expulsión de los moriscos de Hornachos y la república de Salé Historical milestone · Hornachos, Tierra de Barros, Badajoz Image of Hornachos, not of the place itself. Hornachos was the last great Morisco stronghold of the Crown of Castile; in January 1610 its Morisco inhabitants were expelled from Spain. Many of those families (such as the Vargas or the Correón) founded in Salé, next to present-day Rabat, a singular pirate republic that defied Spain and France, and adopted new names such as Bargach or Karioun. Hornachos is twinned with Rabat. enero de 1610 Photo: Jesusccastillo (CC BY-SA 3.0 es) What to see and do in Hornachos
