1.5 km from the town, the Roman theater and remains of the forum of the ancient city of Regina Turdulorum survive, founded around the 1st century AD, around the reign of Augustus. The city is last mentioned in the acts of the Second Council of Sevilla in the year 619, presided over by San Isidoro.
