L'Olleria Village · Olleria l', La Vall d'Albaida, Valencia L'Olleria is a municipality of the Vall d'Albaida, in Valencia, south of the Serra Grossa, a natural border with the Costera; it borders Albaida, Canals, Montaverner and Xàtiva. It owes its name to the old Alqueria de les Olles, al-Fukhkhâr in Arabic, mentioned in the Llibre del Repartiment of 1250; its coat of arms shows, above the royal bars, an olive tree with two clay pots. Inhabited since remote times, it has remains from the Middle Palaeolithic at the Cova de Sant Nicolau and from the Bronze Age at the Castellet del Porquet, and it was also an important Roman settlement. It became independent of Xàtiva in two stages: as a universitat in 1583 and as a royal town in 1588; in 1522, during the revolt of the Germanías, royal troops burned its church of Santa María Magdalena, then a refuge for hundreds of people.
