Mondúver Nature · Xeresa, La Safor, Valencia The Mondúver is a Cretaceous mountain massif in the southeast of La Safor, whose peak, at 841 metres, lies between the municipalities of Xeresa, Gandía and Xeraco and can be climbed via a paved track from La Drova. It has abundant karst formations, with numerous sinkholes and chasms through which water filters before emerging at its foot. On its southern slope opens the Parpalló cave, excavated between 1929 and 1931 and considered one of the most important Palaeolithic sites of Valencian prehistory; in January 1097 an Almoravid army camped there to harass El Cid and King Peter I of Aragon, which led to the Battle of Bairén. From its summit, with a radio and television transmission centre, the beaches of La Safor can be seen and, with good visibility, the island of Ibiza.
