Church of San Pedro de Sueca Monument · Sueca, La Ribera Baixa, Valencia Archpriestal church of Saint Peter the Apostle of Sueca, a Neoclassical church built in 1721, located on the central St Peter's Square and listed as a Bien de Interés Cultural (Spain's highest level of heritage protection). It has undergone major remodelling over time: it retained a Gothic altarpiece from the late 14th century until it was replaced in 1550 by a Renaissance one, which was in turn replaced by another from the 18th century, the work of Andrés Robles, itself replaced in 1929 and destroyed in 1936 during the Civil War. It has a three-nave plan, a transept with a large dome on an octagonal drum, and an ambulatory chevet; the five-tiered bell tower is attributed to around 1700. The façade, covered over at the start of the 20th century, has two lateral towers topped with blue tiles, like the dome. Photo: 19Tarrestnom65 (CC BY-SA 4.0) What to see and do in Sueca
