Expulsion of the Moriscos and the emptying of the Hoya

Historical milestone · Buñol, La Hoya de Buñol, Valencia

Image of Buñol, not of the place itself.

The comarca was mainly Morisco and the expulsion decree left it almost deserted. Buñol went from some seven hundred and sixty households to two hundred and seventy-three by around 1646, and the lords had to grant charters of settlement to bring in Christian colonists.
