The 1707 fire of Xàtiva Historical milestone · Xàtiva, La Costera, Valencia Image of Xàtiva, not of the place itself. For its support of archduke Charles, Xàtiva was stormed in 1707 by the troops of the Chevalier d'Asfeld and burned by order of Philip V, who renamed the city San Felipe. From that punishment comes the nickname socarrats by which its inhabitants are still known. 1707 Photo: Cristina Carmona (CC BY-SA 3.0 es) What to see and do in Xàtiva
