Terres dels Alforins Curiosity · Font de la Figuera (la), La Costera, Valencia Image of Font de la Figuera (la), not of the place itself. A wine-growing comarca known as the Valencian Tuscany, which brings together more than ten wineries from La Font de la Figuera and neighbouring municipalities of the comarcas of La Costera and La Vall d'Albaida, among them Fontanars dels Alforins, which gives the region its name. Its core is the Alforins plateau, at an average altitude of 660 metres, about 300 more than the rest of the Vall d'Albaida, enclosed by the Serra de l'Ombria to the south and the Serra Grossa to the north and open towards the west; a good part of its territory is protected as a special protection area for birds. The place name Alforins comes from the Arabic al-hurí, granary or grain store, and is already documented in 1256, when Jaume I granted these lands to the inhabitants of Ontinyent.
