Convent of la Magdalena de Massamagrell Monument · Massamagrell, L'Horta Nord, Valencia The convent of la Magdalena, or of the Capuchins, of Massamagrell (Valencia) was founded in 1596 by the patriarch Sant Joan de Ribera on the site of the old 15th-century hermitage of la Magdalena, around which the conventual complex was later built. In 1665 the painter Jeroni Jacint Espinosa made for the Capuchins his most important work, La última comunión de la Magdalena, today in the Museum of Fine Arts of Valencia, of which a copy is kept in the presbytery. The cistern cloister, from the second half of the 18th century, is an irregular square with a gallery covered by a groin vault, and its central courtyard holds a fired-clay image of the Immaculate Conception dating from after 1939. The cemetery, from 1883, houses a simple chapel. Photo: Juan Emilio Prades Bel (CC BY 4.0) What to see and do in Massamagrell
