Arab origin of Jarafuel Curiosity · Jarafuel, El Valle de Cofrentes-Ayora, Valencia Image of Jarafuel, not of the place itself. Jarafuel has an Arab origin: its primitive nucleus, called Al-Sarafá (elevated place), was formed during the breakup of the Caliphate of Córdoba (1002) and the emergence of the taifa kingdoms (1031). Under Almohad rule it held strategic importance, until in 1243 it was conquered by the Castilian troops of the Infante Alfonso, the future Alfonso X, with Muhammad Ibn Hud, the last Muslim king of Murcia and lord of Al-Sarafá, surrendering.
