Ceramic tradition of L'Alcalatén Curiosity · L'Alcora, L'Alcalatén, Castellón Image of L'Alcora, not of the place itself. Ceramics is the main historical industrial activity of L'Alcora, Figueroles and Llucena, with the Maig Ceràmic cultural cycle held since 2021. The tradition begins in 1727, when the Count of Aranda, Buenaventura Pedro de Alcántara Jiménez de Urrea, founded the Royal Fine Earthenware and Porcelain Factory on his estates after visiting the ceramic factories of Marseille, Nevers and Moustiers. In 1792, during his scientific expedition across Spain, the botanist Antonio José de Cavanilles arrived in Alcora and found the town in full boom thanks to its flourishing ceramic activity, which declined from 1798 before recovering over time.
