The Magnolia of Sanet y Negrals Nature · Sanet y Negrals, La Marina Alta, Alicante Image of Sanet y Negrals, not of the place itself. The Magnolia of Sanet y Negrals is a hundred-year-old tree brought from America and considered the largest specimen of its species in the province of Alicante. It is of notable botanical interest: it belongs to a group of species that predate the appearance of bees, so its flowers evolved to be pollinated by beetles, and it develops hard carpels that prevent them from deteriorating. Fossils of the species Magnolia acuminata up to 20 million years old have been found, while the magnolia family dates back some 95 million years.
