El Ràfol d'Almúnia Village · Ràfol d'Almúnia, el, La Marina Alta, Alicante El Ràfol d'Almúnia is one of the smallest municipalities in La Marina Alta, of Arab origin and a former lordship of the Murs, Sapena and Almunia families after the conquest of James I. For centuries it was the only one of the five towns of La Rectoría, along with Benimeli, Sagra, Negrals and Tormos, to have its own church, raised to parish status in 1535 on an old mosque, on which the others depended; in the 17th century it was also the seat of the marquisate of Ráfol de Almunia. The present temple, dedicated to Saint Francis of Paola and built in Baroque style, was rebuilt around 1770 after a fire. Repopulated in 1610 after the expulsion of the Moriscos, today it lives mainly off citrus fruits and construction. Photo: Joanbanjo (CC BY-SA 3.0) What to see and do in Ràfol d'Almúnia, el
