El Poble Nou de Benitatxell Village · Poble Nou de Benitatxell, el/Benitachell, La Marina Alta, Alicante El Poble Nou de Benitatxell is a municipality in the southeast of the Marina Alta, in the province of Alicante, with its urban centre inland and two kilometres of Mediterranean coastline with cliffs up to a hundred metres high, prized by scuba-diving enthusiasts. The Cala del Moraig was artificially created in 1973, by blasting the cliff, for the Cumbre del Sol development; it offers a shingle beach with no buildings on the seafront. The municipality, with 61.4% foreign population in 2022, mostly British, retains dishes such as bollitori in its seafaring cuisine. Its patronal festivities, in honour of Saint Mary Magdalene, Saint Roch, Saint Christopher and Saint James, are celebrated from 22 to 25 July, with the traditional Tancaments, or street bull runs.
