Dénia, UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy Curiosity · Dénia, La Marina Alta, Alicante Image of Dénia, not of the place itself. Dénia was declared a UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy on 11 December 2015, joining the select group of cities with that recognition. The distinction rewards a cuisine based on rice, fish and above all boiled red shrimp, the town's gastronomic symbol. The town backs up that prestige with a range of fine dining that includes the restaurant Quique Dacosta, with three Michelin stars, and Peix & Brases, with one star.
