L'Atzúbia Village · Atzúbia, l', La Marina Alta, Alicante Image of Atzúbia, l', not of the place itself. L'Atzúbia, officially Adsubia, is a municipality in La Marina Alta, in Alicante, formed by the settlements of Adsubia and Forna, merged in 1911, with 589 inhabitants. Its name comes from the Arabic az-Zāwīa, “the hermitage”. Of Arab origin, it retains an old paper mill next to a flour mill, with a vaulted ground floor where paper was made by hand and upper floors for sorting rags and drying sheets. In the hamlet of Forna, a quarter of an hour's walk from the church, stand the remains of the Templar castle, a Bien de Interés Cultural (Spain's highest level of heritage protection), in a village that retains the flavour of the old morisco alquerías. Adsubia's patronal festivities are held in the first week of September, in honour of the Virgin of the Rosary and the Christ of the Miracle.
