Treasure of Villena Curiosity · Villena, L'Alt Vinalopó, Alicante The Villena treasure is one of the most important gold finds of the European Bronze Age: 59 objects of gold, silver, iron and amber weighing almost ten kilos, the most important collection of gold tableware in Spain and the second in Europe after that of the Royal Tombs of Mycenae. Its iron pieces, then considered a precious metal, are among the oldest found in Spain. It was discovered in 1963 by the Villena-born archaeologist José María Soler García, and has been kept ever since at the Archaeological Museum of Villena. In the early hours of 27 August 2026 it suffered a robbery in which most of the gold pieces were stolen, while the silver and other items remained in the museum.
