Flora microreserves of Villena Nature · Villena, L'Alt Vinalopó, Alicante Three flora micro-reserves protect rare plant species in the municipality of Villena: Cabecicos de Villena (1994), Cueva del Lagrimal (1994) and Miramontes (2002). The one at Cabecicos de Villena, near Cabezo Redondo, covers 2.39 hectares of gypsophilous scrubland, the only vegetation able to withstand the stressful gypsum environment, with high summer temperatures and severe winter frosts; it protects priority plants such as jabonera (soapwort), acelga de salobral, zamarrilla and gypsum herniary, as well as a steppe vegetation area with wormwoods of Irano-Turanian origin that blooms with gypsophilous annuals in spring.
