The Moors and Christians festival of Beneixama, in the comarca of L'Alt Vinalopó, is celebrated from 6 to 10 September in honour of the town's patroness, the Divina Aurora, and has its roots in a tradition going back to the 18th century. Five comparsas take part: Moors, Christians, students, farmers and pirates. Among the main events are the Entrada, the Ofrenda, the Retreta and the Embajadas, the latter valued for the literary and artistic quality of their texts, recited during the speeches between the two sides.
